Description
The Dalian Bay Fort is located on the Monk Island Mountain in Dalian Bay. The Dalian Bay Fortresses include five coastal defense forts and one land defense fort, which were built in June from the thirteenth year of Guangxu (1887) to the nineteenth year of Guangxu (1893) in the Qing Dynasty. The forts are all constructed of sand, stone and cement, consisting of gun emplacements, barracks and bullet depots, surrounded by tall soil walls. There are the remnants of Dalian Bay and Xujiashan Fortress. The Dalian Bay Fort began to be garrisoned by the 13th Battalion of the Tongming Army, Admiral Liu Shengxiu. In the 20th year of Guangxu (1894), the Sino-Japanese War broke out, and then the commander-in-chief Zhao Huaiye, the sixth battalion, and the 3 Huai Army, were stationed in Dalian Bay.
