Inside Tongli Ancient Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City
Description
The Third Bridges are three highly famous stone bridges in Tongli, referring to Taiping (Peace and Tranquility) Bridge, Jili (Luck) Bridge and Changqing (Lasting Celebration) Bridge. Since ancient times, there has been a custom of “crossing the three bridges” on milestone occasions such as weddings during which people cross the three bridges in groups for good fortune. The three bridges are in the shape of “品”, crossing the intersection of the three rivers and forming circular streets. The banks alongside are covered with bluestones and flower-and-stone columns stand on both sides. The scenery is reflected in the water, pedestrians pass through the bridges from time to time, and boats pass by under the bridges, forming a unique scenery of the ancient town.
