Description
Six Records of a Floating Life is an autobiographical prose written by Shen Fu, a scholar in Suzhou during the Qing Dynasty, in the 13th year of Jiaqing (1808). The protagonist Shen Fu recalls that he was born in a family of scholars and scholars near Canglang Pavilion in the south of Suzhou. He first met his aunt's daughter Chen Yun and fell in love with her. Later, he married her. After marriage, the couple treated each other as equals and loved each other deeply. They were not worldly and were good at finding joy in hardship. When Yunniang died of a long-term illness, he left home and wandered around, so he wrote Six Records of a Floating Life to comfort the couple's thoughts of separation between life and death. The newly-edited Kunqu opera Six Records of a Floating Life is performed in the ancient garden Canglang Pavilion in Suzhou, one of the places where the story takes place. In a novel immersive way, the world intangible cultural heritage - Kunqu art is combined with the garden landscape of the world cultural heritage Canglang Pavilion, condensing the simple picture of Suzhou's urban life woven by poetry, painting, streets, water, lotus and stone bridges, and telling the deep affection of the couple's love for humanity, similar interests and dependence on firewood and rice.
