Two-day tour of Xi'an
11/08/2024

Xi'an, a place that holds the most memories of China, has been the aspiration of many people since ancient times. Entering the imperial city, one can see all the flowers of Chang'an in a day. Xi'an's history, folk customs, delicious food... are all reasons that attract us to come here. The charm of Xi'an is not only a thousand years old. But if you only have two days, I want to show you a deeper and more vivid Chang'an City like this.

Day1 Explore the Qin Empire
As the biggest IP of traveling in Xi'an, on the first day of coming here, let's visit this huge underground army that has been buried for thousands of years. In addition to visiting the shocking Terracotta Army, in order to make the itinerary richer and more experiential, it is recommended to give up the crowded Huaqing Pool and add some interesting handmade experiences to also give some relaxed and slow-down time to the trip.
Recommended itinerary: Visit the Terracotta Army - Experience making terra cotta warriors in ancient ways - Jia Pingwa Art Museum - Look for delicious food in Huifang.
Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum - A huge underground army
This underground army that has not yet been fully excavated and restored is known as "the eighth wonder of the world". As the guard of the first feudal emperor in Chinese history, Qin Shihuang, they are huge and orderly. The clear division of labor shows us the powerful strength of the Qin army's "sweeping across the six states". Visiting the Terracotta Army Museum mainly includes Pits No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and the bronze chariot and horse exhibition hall.
Pit No. 1 is the largest pit of the Terracotta Army and also the place where we can most feel that the Terracotta Army as a great wonder is extremely shocking. Here we can not only see the huge infantry army displayed in its original state, but more interestingly, we can also see the archaeologists on the other side concentrating on restoration.
In Pit No. 2, we can see many classic forms of Terracotta Army, such as kneeling archer figurines, standing archer figurines and general figurines. The appearance of each Terracotta Army is not exactly the same. Carefully observing the posture of the kneeling archer figurine, we can see that his shoe sole is anti-slip with a thousand-layer sole. We will also find that the general figurine will have a bigger belly than ordinary soldier figurines. It should be because he exercises less, haha.
Pit No. 3 is the smallest in scale but also the most important place. It is equivalent to the staff department in the current army and is where the leaders strategize.
Experience making terra cotta warriors in ancient ways - Take history home
When visiting the Terracotta Army, you will deeply feel that the workmanship of the Terracotta Army with a thousand faces is really meticulous. Although we can't take one away from the pit, we can make one by ourselves! Not far from the Terracotta Army Museum, there is the studio of an old craftsman who makes terra cotta warriors in ancient ways. You can visit and learn to make terra cotta warriors in ancient ways on the spot. Carefully make a terra cotta warrior that belongs only to you. Everyone can engrave their own mark on it, which is very commemorative.

Day2 Wander around Chang'an City leisurely
As the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Xi'an naturally has many scenic spots worth visiting in the urban area. In this ancient city, you can choose a deeper experience, integrate more into the local area, feel the flow of a thousand years here, and feel the daily life here in the past and present. Leave time and space for yourself to savor the alluring charm of this ancient city and the restlessness of the young people here.
Small Wild Goose Pagoda - A quiet place that has stood for a thousand years
Everyone should know the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Compared with the crowded Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an is a garden museum that locals prefer more.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is specifically located in the Jianfu Temple in Anrenfang of Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty. It is also called "Jianfu Temple Pagoda". It was built during the period of Li Xian, Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty. It is an important symbol retained in Chang'an City of the Tang Dynasty together with the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Here there are ancient temples, ancient pagodas, and thousand-year-old pagoda trees. It is peaceful and melodious, and the environment is very comfortable.
As soon as you enter the Small Wild Goose Pagoda park, you can see a passage composed of two rows of ancient horse tethering stones. You can learn about the various forms of horse tethering stones in front of every household in Chang'an City at that time. It is also a very suitable place for taking pictures.
The Xi'an Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology is also in this park. As you walk, you can see some ancient stele foreheads, column bases, etc. placed on the ground. It can really be said that cultural relics are everywhere, but please don't destroy them at will.
Compared with the famous Shaanxi History Museum, the Xi'an Museum is often abandoned by travelers or even completely ignored. But it is indeed the best place to understand this city. With the theme of "Ancient Capital Xi'an", it shows the territorial changes, urban construction and more detailed and real daily life of ancient Xi'an people in various dynasties in various ways.
Shaanxi History Museum - An absolute treasure trove
Friends who are interested in historical relics should all know the power of the Shaanxi History Museum. Although there are many tourists in the Shaanxi History Museum, it is also a place that one has to go to when coming to Xi'an. The rich cultural relics accumulated by the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties live in this dormitory. The "national treasures" here once shone brightly in their own dynasties and were also buried under the soil for thousands of years. Now they tell the stories that happened to them to every passing tourist in the modern glass cabinets.
The main exhibition halls of the Shaanxi History Museum are in chronological order of dynasties, from the Zhou Dynasty to the Qin Dynasty to the Han Dynasty... showing the precious cultural relics and historical cultures of various dynasties and places in Shaanxi. Visiting is just one word, there are too many things to see! When seeing every exquisite cultural relic, you will unconsciously imagine the environment it was in and the things it witnessed at that time. Throughout the whole process, you will be amazed by the profound wisdom and excellent artistic aesthetics of the ancient ancestors.
Music Fountain at the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda - The sound of fountain by the Buddhist pagoda
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Ci'en Temple in Jinchangfang of Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty. This is also a popular scenic spot in Xi'an. However, I personally think that the ticket price of 50 yuan/person for Ci'en Temple + 30 yuan/person for climbing the tower cannot bring too many attractions. The music fountain on the north square of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda that can be watched for free always attracts many people to come and watch. With lights at night, the viewing experience is even better.
The fountain show is generally about 20 minutes. After watching it, you can slowly walk to the south square, punch in at the sculpture of Xuanzang, and you can also take a punch-in photo for yourself.
