I decided to stop in Shenyang on my way back to Beijing from Dalian. I wanted to find a place to relax and enjoy the food, and Shenyang seemed like the perfect choice. I traveled with my family and spent 4 days in Shenyang at a cost of about 1500 RMB per person.
We traveled to and from Shenyang by train, and in the city we mainly took the subway and cabs, and occasionally used shared bikes. We stayed at the same hotel we stayed at last time, but unfortunately, the surrounding area was under extensive road construction, and the entire building next door was being demolished, so it was a mess, and the intersections around us were jammed, so we couldn't get back to the hotel by taxi.
Speaking of the city's attractions, if it is the first time to Shenyang, I recommend the Forbidden City, the Marshal's Palace and this time to go to the Qing Zhaoling Mausoleum as a must-go place. If you have enough time, the Industrial Museum is also worth a visit. If it is the second or more times to Shenyang, you can arrange the itinerary at will.
Below is a detailed description of the Beiling Park and Qing Zhaoling. Beiling Park is the common name of Shenyang Zhaoling, in 1927 Fengtian Provincial Government of Qing Zhaoling into a park, because it is located in the northern part of the city, so the name of Beiling Park, after the expansion, it is now a combination of mausoleums, buildings, scenic views, modern amusement facilities and natural scenery, is the largest area of Shenyang's park. On weekends, it is a good place for citizens and tourists to relax, with amusement facilities, gardens, snacks and boats. There are also a lot of people dancing, playing music, singing, rollerblading and biking (bikes can be rented in the park). There is no need for visitors to come to this park alone if they do not plan to visit Qing Zhaoling.
The Qing Zhaoling Mausoleum was completed in 1643, the same year that Emperor Huang Taiji of the Qing Dynasty was buried here. 1650, the first year of Shunzhi's reign, the mausoleum was given the name “Zhaoling Mausoleum”. 1657, Empress Bordjigit, the Empress of Filial Piety Duanwen, was also buried here. The plan layout of the building follows the principle of the mausoleum of “front and back”, which is divided into three parts from the south to the north: the front, the middle and the back, and the main buildings are all on the central axis, which are arranged symmetrically on both sides and very neatly, and it is one of the most well-preserved ancient emperor's mausoleum buildings in China. Architectural form into the local characteristics of the period of the rise of the Manchu and national style, is a typical example of the integration of Manchu and Chinese culture in the imperial tomb architecture. 2004, it was included in the list of world cultural heritage, is one of the scenic spots in Shenyang, well worth a visit.
The opening hours of Beiling Park are: April 1 - October 31, 04:00 - 22:00; November 1 - March 31, 08:00 - 16:00, you can take the subway line 2 and get off at the “Beiling Park” station, which is the south gate of the park. After entering the park, you can see a stone pagoda, which was built in the Shunzhi or Kangxi years, for the imitation wood frame structure, there are 4 columns, 3, 3 floors, hermetic roof, the body of the square carved with a variety of floral patterns, vivid and realistic. The whole stone workshop is finely carved, which can be regarded as a fine art of stone carving. Across the stone bridge (also known as the Bridge of God), came to the entrance to the Zhaoling Mausoleum. The park provides paid battery cars to and from the south gate.
The main red gate is the main entrance to the mausoleum, and the courtyards on either side are the Changyi Pavilion in the east and the Zaijia Pavilion in the west. After passing through the Main Red Gate, you come to the central area of the Zhaoling Mausoleum, which is dominated by stone sculptures of Huabiao, lions, stone haetae, stone unicorns, white horses, camels, and elephants. These are unique structures from ancient times, which were originally used to ward off demons and evil spirits, but later became symbols of the status of the deceased. Further on is the Stele Pavilion, with the “Zhaoling Divine Merit and Sacred Virtue Stele”, which records the merits and virtues of Huang Taiji's life.
