Yantai Museum was established in 1958. It currently has two locations. The original location is located in the Fujian Guild Hall (Yantai Folk Museum), a national key cultural relic protection unit, and the new location is located at the new museum building at No. 61 South Street. The new building has a construction area of ​​17,000 square meters and a total investment of 160 million yuan. It is located at the west end of the Cultural Square in the center of Yantai City. The project was approved in 2007 and construction started in 2009. The overall building is divided into one underground floor and four above-ground floors. It includes a cultural relic warehouse, a multi-functional lecture hall, a lobby, an exhibition hall, a teahouse, a 4D cinema, an office area, a reading area and other parts. It is a comprehensive modern museum that focuses on the humanities, history, culture and art of Yantai. It was promoted to the third batch of national first-class museums in 2017.
