Description
Zhuhai mangroves are mainly distributed on Qi'ao Island, Hengqin Island and Hongqi West Embankment, Modaomen and Jitimen waterways near the sea outlet. Among them, the wetland area in Dawei Bay in the northwest of Qi'ao Island is relatively large. Preserved intact, concentrated and contiguous forest area, the tree height is 4-6 meters. It is not only a resource of Zhuhai City, but also a mangrove wetland in the Pearl River Delta, and one of the rare mangrove areas in the country that is close to a big city. Qi'ao Mangrove Reserve is located in the northwest of Qi'ao Island. The reserve has 695 species of vascular plants and 347 species of wild animals, including 15 species of true mangroves and 9 species of semi-mangroves. The mangroves growing on the beach are not only marine forests that protect against wind and sand, breakwaters and dikes, but also a good place for birds and marine life to inhabit and multiply. They are also one of the three major migration paths for migratory birds in China. In total, there are more than 90 species of migratory birds.
