Guangzhou Oceanarium is located in Guangzhou Zoo, No. 120, Xianlie Middle Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou. It was opened to the public in January 1998. It is one of the first operating oceanariums in China and has won the titles of "Guangdong Youth Science and Technology Education Base" and "National Science Education Base". In June 2024, Guangzhou Urban Investment Group completed the quality upgrade of the venue and equipment. Guangzhou Oceanarium has a new look and reopened. It is operated and managed by Guangzhou Oceanarium Operation Management Co., Ltd. under Canton Tower.
Guangzhou Oceanarium covers an area of about 16,000 square meters and a total construction area of about 20,000 square meters. It consists of four major theme areas: Rainforest Exploration, Fantasy Land, Future Sea, and Fairy Bay. It is a multifunctional oceanarium that integrates display, viewing, science and education. There are more than 300 species of marine life and nearly 10,000 marine fish on display in the aquarium. Here you can see the ferocious "sand tiger shark", the smart and cute "bottlenose dolphin", the rare "spotted seal" and "green turtle" and the beluga whale known as the "canary in the sea"; the giant Brazilian bony tongue fish, one of the freshwater fish, and the original freshwater fish of the Pearl River system, such as the salamander, the cyprinid, and the mullet.
Guangzhou Oceanarium not only brings extraordinary marine cultural experiences to Residents and tourists through its rich marine life, vivid marine science, interesting interactive installations, and close-to-nature display methods, but also continues to advocate the green development concept of caring for the welfare of marine animals and protecting marine ecological diversity, aiming to become a domestic urban boutique oceanarium and an important display window for Guangzhou to realize "new vitality for old cities".
