The museum covers an area of ​​1,885 square meters. It was planned and built in early 1959 and officially opened to the public in 2006. It is an animal museum. The museum's storage areas include mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, fish and insects; the specimen museum has a rich collection of animal specimens, such as golden monkeys, giant pandas, black-necked cranes, turtles and other rare species. Kunming Zoological Museum is a modern museum integrating exhibition, research and education, and is also an important base for local natural science popularization.
