Description
Huangdao District, also known as Qingdao West Coast New District, is a municipal district of Qingdao and the ninth national-level new district of the People's Republic of China. Huangdao District is a national pilot area for coordinated development of sea and land, an international high-end marine industry cluster, a demonstration area for international cooperation in marine economy, an international shipping hub, and a blue economy pilot area in Shandong Peninsula. In 2012, the former Huangdao District and Jiaonan City of Qingdao were revoked, and the new Huangdao District of Qingdao was established. In 2014, the Qingdao West Coast Economic New Zone was established, covering the entire Huangdao District, with a total area of about 2,096 square kilometers and a total population of 1.71 million, making it the largest administrative region in Qingdao. In 2017, Huangdao District completed a gross regional product (GDP) of 276.6 billion yuan, and its economic level surpassed the five prefecture-level cities in Shandong Province and ranked first in the municipal districts of Shandong Province. Among them, the Northern 6th Sub-district and Wangtai (including Huangshan Economic Zone) and Lingshanwei Sub-district Office (including Jimiyagang District) are the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zones which are the first batch of national economic and technological development zones approved by the State Council.
