Qingdao West Coast New Area is located on the west coast of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, including the entire administrative area of Huangdao District, namely the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone and the entire administrative area of the former Jiaonan City, with a land area of about 2,096 square kilometers and a sea area of about 5,000 square kilometers. The West Coast New Area is strategically positioned as a pilot area for independent innovation in marine science and technology, a strategic support base for deep-sea development, a demonstration area for military-civilian integration innovation, a pilot area for international cooperation in marine economy, and a pilot area for coordinated development of land and sea. The West Coast New Area is the ninth national-level new area approved by the State Council. It is located in the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and the Bohai Rim Economic Circle. It has the strategic advantage of connecting the east and the west and connecting the north and the south. It is the main sea passage of the Yellow River Basin and an important end point in the east of the Eurasian Continental Bridge. In 2015, it was selected as the first batch of national ecological protection and construction demonstration zones. In 2015, the number of investment projects of Fortune 500 companies reached 67. In two years, more than 1,000 construction industry projects have been introduced, of which more than 340 have been started and more than 160 have been completed and put into production. In February 2017, Qingdao West Coast New Area was selected as a key city for PPP innovation work in the field of national major municipal engineering.
