Description
Located in Shekou, Nanshan District, the Sea World Culture and Art Center was designed by Japanese designer Fumihiko Maki, who won the Pritzker Prize. When it was built, it was named one of the "Top Ten New Destinations Worth Looking Forward to" in the world in 2017 by Lonely Planet. The main space of the art center faces three perspectives: mountain, sea, and city. It faces Shekou Bay, backs on Shenzhen Da Nanshan, and is Souvenir by the city landscape. This building customized for Shenzhen immediately became a local landmark. The interior of the art center consists of six exhibition halls: the main exhibition hall, V&A exhibition hall, landscape exhibition hall, Shenzhen Guanfu Museum, China Reform and Opening-up Shekou Museum, and UNESCO Creative Cities Network Exchange Center. It is also equipped with theaters, education and Dining spaces. The open staircases on both sides of the building, where people can sit and rest or hold temporary performances, also coincide with the designer's design concept of being close, comfortable, and natural.
