Description
Wolong Temple is located in the west of Tongtong Lane in the east of Baishulin, Beilin District, Xi'an. It is an earlier Buddhist temple in Shaanxi. According to the temple tablet records, Wolong Temple was founded in the period of Emperor Ling of Han (168-189). In the Sui Dynasty, it was called "Fuying Temple". In the Tang Dynasty, because Wu Daozi painted a statue of Guanyin in the temple, it was once renamed "Guanyin Temple". At the beginning of the Song Dynasty, the Zen master Weiguo lived in the temple, and his world name was "Wolong Zen Man". It was rebuilt on a large scale in the sixteenth year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1521). In the 27th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1901), when the Empress Dowager Cixi took refuge in Xi'an, she gave money to repair it and built a stone archway in front of the mountain gate. At that time, the Buddhist scriptures, statues and other objects of tribute in Mongolia and Tibet were sent to Wolong Temple for worship. After the Wolong Temple was destroyed in the war. In 1931, lay Buddhist Zhu Ziqiao raised funds to renovate the temple and established a Buddhist library in the temple. After the founding of China, funds were allocated for renovation in 1951. The temple was rebuilt, Buddha statues were enshrined, and religious activities were resumed.
