Description
Zhengyangmen was built in the seventeenth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, formerly known as Lizhengmen. Because it is located right in front of the Forbidden City, it is also known as the "Front Gate". Zhengyangmen is one of the "nine gates of the capital" in old Beijing, and it is affectionately called "Qianmenlouzi" by Beijingers. It is also the well-preserved old city gate in Beijing. Zhengyangmen consists of three parts: the gate tower, the arrow tower and the Wengcheng. The Wengcheng has been demolished, and the gate tower and the arrow tower are separated on both sides of Qianmen Street. Climbing the tower, you can learn about the history and customs of Beijing in the exhibition halls on each floor. The Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower is a taller tower in Beijing. The city cave downstairs used to not allow ordinary people to walk. Now tourists can walk to Qianmen Street from here.
