Invested, built and operated by Lujiazui Group, The Museum of Art Pudong(MAP) was designed by Jean Nouvel, a famous French architect and Pritzker Prize winner. Construction started on September 26, 2017 and it will be officially opened to the public in July 2021. Located in the core area of Xiaolujiazui Riverside, The Museum of Art Pudong is a 30-meter-high modern building with 6 floors. It extends to the Huangpu River in the west and connects to the Oriental Pearl Tower in the east via the Garden Square, forming a 30,000-square-meter art museum territory.
The main building The Museum of Art Pudong covers an area of 13,000 square meters, with a total construction area of nearly 40,000 square meters. It has 13 exhibition halls with an exhibition area of more than 10,000 square meters. The facade and floor of the building are made of Shandong white granite, and the interior space and decoration are inspired by Malevich's classic geometric lines.
As a state-owned public art museum, The Museum of Art Pudong is an important measure to build the "Shanghai Culture" brand. It shoulders the cultural mission and social responsibility entrusted by the municipal and district governments. It focuses on international art exhibitions and exchanges, while taking into account domestic art exhibitions, highlighting the four major functions of exhibitions, aesthetic education, cultural creation, and international exchanges. It is committed to becoming a new landmark of Shanghai's international cultural venues and an important platform for international cultural and artistic exchanges.
The Museum of Art Pudong invites the world's leading art museums and artists to cooperate with it, providing audiences with the precious experience of enjoying the world's art treasures without leaving Shanghai, and strives to become "the first place in China for internationally renowned art exhibitions and a must-visit place for domestic artists". The Museum of Art Pudong invites the British Tate Gallery as an operational consultant and opening exhibition partner, and signed a 5-year strategic cooperation agreement with it, planning to launch a blockbuster exhibition every year.
