Description
Tilanqiao Prison was located on Huade Road (now No. 147 Changyang Road) and was opened in 1903. In June 1995, it was renamed Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, local residents built a bridge on the Xiahai Pu, near the Xiahai Temple, named Tilan Bridge, hence the name of the place. After 1840, the place was included in the Shanghai American Concession, and it gradually became one of the main markets north of Suzhou River due to the incense-filled Xiahai Temple and the ferry to Pudong. In 1903, the Ministry of Industry Bureau of Shanghai Public Concession built a large-scale prison of the Ministry of Industry and Technology on the land between Huade Road (Changyang Road), Zhoushan Road, Kunming Road and Baoding Road in the Tilanqiao area, commonly known as "Tilanqiao Prison". . When the Nazis took power in Germany, a large number of Jews took refuge in Shanghai, and Tilanqiao was one of the main settlements. At present, there is a Jewish Huade Road Moses Synagogue at No. 62 Changyang Road in the Tilanqiao area. At present, the scope of Tilan Bridge is roughly between Yangshupu Road, Huimin Road, Huangpu River, Dongdaming Road and Huoshan Road. In recent years, the Shanghai International Passenger Terminal has been newly built in the area, and large-scale real estate development has been carried out with the concept of the North Bund, and the economic situation has improved to a certain extent.
